..."Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever
does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:15-16

The Northport congregation has always taken "Great Commission" seriously.  The eldership provides opportunities for each member to be involved in mission work.  The following is a summary of the current mission works here at Northport.

Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa

Northport has been involved in saving the lost in this part of the world for the past four years.  We are currently the supporting congregation for the Richardson family.  The harvest is truly plentiful in Africa and the Richardson's are doing a wonderful job of helping the church to grow.  Their efforts, along with that of others, have resulted in over 500 people becoming Christians and several new congregations being established in the past year alone.

World Bible School (WBS)

Want to get involved in helping spread the gospel but don't know where to start? See Wayne Duren about World Bible School.  WBS allows you to share the gospel with people all over the world without ever leaving home.  WBS correspondence courses are sent to students around the world free-of-charge and helps hundreds of men and women obey the gospel each year.

North Pickens and Greensboro churches of Christ

North Pickens and Greensboro are congregations located about 30-45 miles from Northport.  Several of the men from Northport go on Sunday's and preach for these small congregations that do not have a full time preacher.  The youth and college groups have worked with these congregations in a number of different ways during the past year and plans are being made to continue helping these brethren.  See Greg Dixon if you would like to help these small congregations in some way.

Preacher Scholarship Program

Good, sound gospel preachers are a must in evangelism.  Northport has been blessed over the years to help prepare a number of young men for the ministry.  Men who are members at Northport may be eligible to receive a partial scholarship to help pay for their expenses while attending school to become a preacher.  Only time will tell how many souls will be won for the Master as a result of this program.

Indian Creek Youth Camp (ICYC)

Indian Creek has been around a long time and the Northport congregation has helped through the years with some of its special needs.  This year we are adding this to our funding in mission works.  This camp, located about fifty miles north of Northport, has helped many young people by bringing them together where they are taught the truth of the gospel.  Some of our own members were baptized at ICYC.  Our preacher, Kerry Richardson, continues to serve on its board of directors and Burt Fuller will soon begin full time work as the camp coordinator.

Other areas of work include:

  • Preaching the Gospel telecast
  • Bible Department, Freed Hardeman University
  • Benevolent Program
  • Eutaw church of Christ
  • Disaster Relief Efforts

Would you like to help support a native preacher in Africa?  Don't think you can afford it?  For approximately $200-$250 a month an African preacher can support himself and his family and devote his full time to spreading the gospel.  We have several in the congregation that are actively involved in this work now.  If you would like to know more about helping support these good men see Gary Box.

The mission program at Northport is designed to reach as many people with the gospel as possible and to allow all members to participate and "bear fruit".

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit." John 15:1-2
