BSR is excited to invite you to a conversation with The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) on July 19th at 9 a.m. PDT/Noon EDT/17:00 BST. This webinar is targeted to any company along metals and minerals value chains, ranging from mining companies to end users such as renewable energy, automotive, jewellery, manufacturing, technology hardware, and the financial institutions that invest in the same.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to learn more about IRMA and its unique approach to assessing practices in the mining sector.
Founded in 2006, IRMA provides a comprehensive standard covering the full range of social and environmental impacts from industrial-scale mining, and is applicable to all geographies and all mined materials.
One of the most important aspects setting the IRMA system apart from other assessments is its commitment to serve each stakeholder group equally. This tenet is grounded in equal multi-stakeholder governance of the IRMA Board of Directors. The six stakeholder houses of IRMA—mining, labor, communities, NGOs, purchasing (buyers of mined materials), and financial institutions—have equal voting power in guiding how the system operates and which elements are included in the Standard
IRMA will present the basic elements of its system, as well as an overview of current uptake, and then answer questions from the group.
We look forward to seeing you at this conversation and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

The fashion industry is transforming from linear to more circular business models. How can we leverage this transformation to reimagine and rebuild the global fashion system so that it works for all? Through Keeping Workers in the Loop (KWIL), we convened over 45 major fashion industry players—established brands, emerging circular businesses, worker representatives, sustainable fashion experts, and international institutions—to explore this very question.
The latest update from Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD), BSR's collaborative initiative driven by palm oil derivatives users to transform their supply chains, shows that a centralized, collective approach to enhancing transparency, boosting engagement, and identifying risks is working.
The number of children in child labor has increased from 152 to 160 million globally, and COVID-19 is expected to further obstruct efforts to eliminate child labor. Here's how palm oil companies can respect child rights and address this complex issue.
The Global Business Coalition against Human Trafficking (GBCAT) has released a new toolkit that aims to help businesses that work in corporate supply chains to quickly identify areas of the business which carry the highest risk of modern slavery and develop a plan to identify, prevent, and address risks.
