Human Rights Overview
How We Work
We draw on a team of nearly 20 human rights experts and a network of partners from business and civil society to tackle global challenges and help companies in all sectors meet and exceed global human rights standards. Our work includes surveying and benchmarking human rights practices and policies across industries to aid our member companies’ efforts to craft comprehensive, responsible approaches to human rights.
Business Benefits
Companies are expected to ensure that they do not infringe on fundamental human rights through their operations, products, services, or business relationships. A human rights strategy and management system helps companies meet this responsibility and brings business benefits, such as:
- Minimizing operational, legal, and reputational risk
- Maintaining license to operate
- Reducing costs associated with worker overtime, turnover, and ill health—issues best managed through an integrated human rights strategy
- Supporting local communities
- Strengthening brand reputation with shareholders, investors, government, and the media
Expertise
- Creation of robust human rights policies and strategies
- Human rights due diligence at the corporate, market, product, or site levels that identifies unique company impacts, risks, and opportunities
- Policies and processes for articulating corporate commitments to human rights and integrating human rights into core business functions
- Tools to monitor and communicate performance and progress in advancing human rights
- Multistakeholder processes and community engagements to better understand root causes and collective solutions
