Youth & Family Ministry

K-5th Grade Ministry

Children are an important part of the Northport Church of Christ, and we are blessed to have a large group of children in our midst.  Jesus encouraged all of us to be like the little children; and they truly are a blessing from whom we can learn much.  Their sincerity of heart and desire to do good is a source of encouragement for each of us to be a better servant.

It is our desire to see all of these small children develop and grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.  To assist each family unit we offer our children opportunities to develop life long friendships with other children whose parents share in like goals and aspirations for their child.

Our desire is for our children to grow up in an atmosphere where church is such a part of their lives that they will grow up to be steadfast Christians.  Through monthly devotionals and various activities, we hope our children will learn traits and develop friendships that will help them reach a heavenly home and live a gratifying Christian life.

Let us remember to pray for our children daily and for the parents who are working to raise their children in a way that would bring glory to God.

Youth & Family Ministry

Of all verses in the Bible concerning how we are to train our youth, I believe this to be one of the most insightful.  The Bible says,

"... teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.  Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." (Titus 2.3-5)

Scripture is clear in its challenge to adults - teach, train, and set a good example for our youth.  With some 100 children and teenagers at Northport, our challenge is great.  We are striving at Northport to make opportunities for our adults (college age-older adults) to be able to mentor our youth.  We do this by selecting caring adults to participate with us on all trips as well as other activities.

Our Youth and Family Ministry exists to "aid" parents in the spiritual walk in everything they do.  Service, social activities, fellowship, and evangelism are some of the "walks" we provide for them.

Our classes at Northport are geared to teach our youth what God wants in their lives as well as how we are to obey Him.  A variety of topics and texts are presented.  We are blessed to have teachers with such a great love for young people.

In general, we are committed to the growth of our teens.  We encourage Christian friendships.  These bonds can help our youth face the many pressures of growing up in a difficult world.  We believe in young people and are fully committed to them.  Our commitment to God, His church, and our teens will remain a constant in this ever-changing world.

Our Youth and Family Minister is Jeremy Pate.  He started his work with us in May 2007.  Helping the spiritual development of our teens is one of his responsibilities.  He also helps the development of our K-5th graders here at Northport.
